Crewman Webene Grathis of Bajor was born in 2356 near the end of the Cardassian Occupation. He knew Cardassian rule for the first thirteen years of his life, and during that time witnessed horrors that he later stated the Dominion War had yet to equal. (Star Trek: Sigils and Unions)
Webene is notable for his great stature and bulk, compared in size to Cardassian glinn Zebreliy Va'Kust, as well as for a shock of red hair.
Starfleet Service[]
Webene enlisted in Starfleet and served aboard the USS Biko until 2375 when his ship was shot down and forced to crash-land on Pullock V during the Dominion War. From there, Webene was rescued by the Cardassian warship Ghiletz and transported to a POW camp on the outworld of Lessek.
When their captors suddenly revealed that they were in fact rebels against the Cardassian Union's Dominion oppressors and invited the marooned Starfleet crew members the chance to fight the Dominion behind enemy lines, Webene became one of the fledgling movement's most unlikely supporters. Noting the civil example set by base commander Va'Kust, as well as his own ill feelings at the thought of any other race suffering what the Bajorans had--even Cardassians, the nineteen-year-old crewman delivered an impassioned plea for support that ended up turning nearly two-thirds of the crew to the effort.
