The USS Sutherland (NCC-72015) was a Nebula-class Federation starship in service during the 24th century. It was built at the San Francisco Fleet Yards orbiting Earth and completed in 2367, on stardate 44820.5. Her propulsion systems were constructed by the Yoyodyne Division. In 2368, while undergoing repairs at a drydock facility at Starbase 234, the Sutherland was assigned to be part of Captain Picard's attempt to interdict the supply lines between the Romulan Star Empire and the House of Duras during the Klingon Civil War. For the duration of that mission, the Sutherland was temporarily commanded by Lieutenant Commander Data, with Lieutenant Commander Christopher Hobson as his first officer. (TNG: "Redemption II")
In 2383, the Sutherland, assigned to the Starfleet Eighth Fleet, participated in the Battle of Minark and was subsequently damaged, losing a nacelle in an exchange with so'jan battleships. (Star Trek: Pioneer: "Torment and Woe")
After Captain Barranco opposed Vice Admiral Leyton's coup on Earth in 2372, he and several other officers stole the Sutherland from Spacedock, and led a fleet of ships in running the blockade of Sector 001.
The Sutherland fought with the patriots during the Federation Civil War, and participated in several major engagements, including the Second Battle of Deep Space 9. She was severely damaged in 2373 and most of her crew were reassigned to the USS Dauntless.
The Sutherland was inactive for the rest of the war, undergoing a complete overhaul. She was relaunched in mid-2375.
Star Trek: SutherlandEdit
Captain Elizabeth Shelby took command of the USS Sutherland in late 2371 with Commander Christopher Hobson serving as first officer. The characters and events that took place in Peter David's Star Trek: New Frontier series of novels are assumed to have not taken place within this continuity.
The Sutherland served with distinction in both the Bajor and Argossian sectors prior to and during the Dominion War, earning honors for captain and crew. Following the Dominion War, the Sutherland served in a variety of capacities within the Bajoran and other nearby sectors. (Star Trek: Sutherland)
