Saratoga was commissioned in January 2258. Later that year, she was deployed as part of Task Force Constitution under the flag command of Garth of Izar. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Early History of the USS Avenger")

In the early 2270s, Saratoga was refitted to Endeavour-subclass specifications. About a decade later, the Saratoga was ambushed by four ships and damaged beyond repair. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol. 1 [revised]])
