Nomenclature[]

The ship was named after the Battles of Saratoga -- 19 September and 07 October 1777 -- of the American Revolutionary War during Earth's 18th century.

Constitution Flight III

The USS Saratoga (NCC-1724) was a Constitution-class heavy cruiser (of the Bonhomme Richard subclass) in Starfleet service during the mid- to late-23rd century. By 2265, all Bonhomme Richards (of the three types) had been upgraded to the Constitution Flight III standard. (Star Fleet Starship Recognition Manual: Report #298: Constitution Heavy Cruiser)

"Invasion (Part 1)"[]

The uniform insignia for the Saratoga was a representation of the Liberty Bell with the division insignia inside it.

Captain Tanner was the commanding officer of the Saratoga in 2267. A science officer was Lieutenant Commander Montgomery.

The events of the film are set during TOS: "Errand of Mercy".

Ships of the Star Fleet[]

In the early 2270s, Saratoga was refitted to Endeavour-subclass specifications. About a decade later, the Saratoga was ambushed by four ships and damaged beyond repair. (Ships of the Star Fleet, vol. 1 [revised])

Star Trek: Avenger[]

Saratoga was commissioned in January 2258. Later that year, she was deployed as part of Task Force Constitution under the flag command of Garth of Izar. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Early History of the USS Avenger")

Star Trek: Nature's Hunger[]

The Saratoga was largely crewed by Aquamites, an icthyo-humanoid race native to Liquido VII. (Razor's Edge)
