The Lovell was named for the 20th century NASA astronaut Jim Lovell.
In 2381, the Lovell was assigned to assist the USS Pioneer, then under the command of Captain Timothy Franco, in transporting the Kobalian leadership council to Deep Space Five. ("Fall of the Apollo")
