The USS Intrepid (NX-74600 and later NCC-74600) was the prototype of the Intrepid-class Federation starship in Starfleet service in the late 24th century, commissioned around 2370.
Commander Donald Kaplan, the ship's chief engineer, regularly engaged in power conversion efficiency contests with Geordi La Forge, chief engineer of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Force of Nature")
Commanded by Captain Terence Riley, Intrepid attempted to intercept the stolen USS Yorktown in 2370. (TNG novel: Crossover)
In 2375, the Intrepid was on a three-year assignment patrolling the Romulan Neutral Zone. Lieutenant Commander Chakotay of the USS Voyager posed as Commander Jason Hayek of the Intrepid on stardate 52136 when he infiltrated a simulation of Starfleet Headquarters created by Species 8472. (VOY: "In the Flesh")
Matthew Donahugh served as the assistant chief medical officer from 2371 to 2373 and the chief medical officer from 2375 to 2381. (Star Trek: Remington)
In 2376, the Intrepid, under Captain Walter Emick was detailed to sectors near the location of Deep Space 9 and participated in fleet actions alongside USS Defiant. (DS9 novel: Demons of Air and Darkness)
In 2379, the USS Intrepid was in Starfleet Battle Group Omega, deployed in Sector 1045 to counter the Reman threat. (Star Trek Nemesis)
Lieutenant Gervasio Valdez served aboard the USS Intrepid prior to becoming the tactical officer aboard the USS Pioneer (NCC-1084) in 2381. (Star Trek: Pioneer (STP): "Everything Changes")
