The USS Intrepid (NCC-1631) was a Constitution-class heavy cruiser active in the 23rd century.

Intrepid's officers and crew were all Vulcans (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome"); her commissioning occurred during the Vulcanian Expedition, by one account. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

One of the YA novels has Intrepid commissioned and manned with an all-Vulcan crew ca. 2246; the Star Trek novel: Collision Course has the idea of a Federation starship fully crewed by Vulcans contemplated in 2250.

In 2266 the Intrepid helped save the USS Bismarck from a group of Orion pirates (STE: "The Bismark")

Intrepid was in spacedock at Starbase 11 in 2267, but USS Enterprise was put ahead of her in the queue. (TOS: "Court Martial")

Serek served as Science Officer in the late 2260's. (Star Trek: The Intrepid Adventures)

Captain Satak was in command during the 2260s. (Star Trek: The Intrepid Adventures)

In 2268, Starbase 6 assigned Intrepid to investigate the loss of contact with the Gamma 7A system in Sector 39J. Intrepid encountered a dark zone that was, unbeknownst at the time, slowly killing the ship's crew.

On stardate 4307.1, Starbase 6 lost contact with Intrepid. Enterprise was issued a rescue priority to investigate. En route to the sector, Commander Spock telepathically sensed the Intrepid crew's deaths.

Enterprise later established that Intrepid and the Gamma 7A system had been destroyed by a cosmozoan, an incredibly huge but simple cellular being whose energies were totally destructive to all known life. The crew of the Enterprise destroyed the lifeform, which was determined to be nourishing itself for reproduction. (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome")

Another starship Intrepid -- also with an all-Vulcan crew (and the same registration number) -- was commissioned in the 2270s. Intrepid's new commanding officer, Suvuk, was a retired admiral who had distinguished himself during the brief conflict at Organia some years before. Some design elements and systems upgrades of the Constitution-class refit had previously been tested on this Intrepid. (TOS novel: My Enemy, My Ally)

Captain Jason McKnight commanded the refitted Intrepid from 2286 to approx. 2298. (The Lexington Adventures)

A third Constitution-class Intrepid, commanded by Luciano Mantovanni, was active from at least ca. 2298 to 2302. (Star Trek: Liberty)
