The USS Farragut (NCC-14221) was an Excelsior-class Federation starship that was launched in 2309. (FASA: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual).

The Farragut served Starfleet well throughout the many conflicts of the 24th century, such as the Federation-Cardassian War and the Federation-Tzenkethi War. Following these conflicts she was retired from service in the late 2350s and was replaced in the early 2360s by the Nebula-class vessel, USS Farragut (NCC-60597).

Following the destruction of the Farragut (NCC-60597) in 2373 during the brief Federation-Klingon War, the Farragut was refitted and reentered service in time for the Dominion War. In 2375, the Farragut brought the genetically-enhanced humans, Patrick, Jack, Lauren, and Sarina Douglas, from Earth to Deep Space 9 to gain treatment for Sarina from Dr. Julian Bashir. (DS9: "Chrysalis").

Later that year, the Farragut served as Admiral William Ross's flagship during the Battle of Cardassia. (DS9 novelization: What You Leave Behind).

It is most likely this Farragut was the predecessor to the Nebula-class USS Farragut, destroyed by the Klingons in 2373, pulled out of retirement due to the Dominion War. (DS9: "Nor the Battle to the Strong", "Chrysalis")

[edit] Notes

  • Wikipedia lists the Farragut's registry as NCC-2357.
