USS Constellation II (NCC-1728) was a Constitution-class heavy cruiser — part of the Endeavour-subclass — in service during the late 23rd century. (Star Fleet Technical Manual) It was intended to replace USS Constellation, which had been destroyed in 2267 during a battle with a doomsday machine. (TOS: "The Doomsday Machine")

In Ships of the Star Fleet, vol. 1, NCC-1728 had the name Truxtun.

Constellation II was commissioned in February 2275.

In mid-2276, Stephen Penik was looking forward to a transfer to the Constellation II. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Star Survey")

Lieutenant Commander Angelica McKnight was stationed on the Constellation II in the late 2270's as communications officer. (The Lexington Adventures)

In the mid-2280s, USS Constellation II, USS Lagrange and USS Polaris were the mainstays of the First Fleet Carrier Group. (Starfleet Communiqué 19)

Nomenclature[]

The ship was named after the star grouping constellation, as well as various Earth seagoing vessels and previous starships such as a Daedalus-class starship of the 22nd century, and the first Constitution-class starship.

Fan organizations[]

One of the earliest chapters named Constellation in Starfleet International was founded in 1975. It was based in Memphis, Tennessee and the president was Mike Pettijohn. (A History of Starfleet: The International Star Trek Fan Association; A History of STARFLEET)

It is not yet known if this Constellation had a fictional metaphor of being set aboard Matthew Decker's ship before the encounter with the doomsday machine or was supposed to be the Constellation II. (A History of STARFLEET)

Constellation II was a chapter of Starfleet International based in Paducah, Kentucky. In 1992, its chapter president was Deborah Spinks. (Communiqué 50 [April/May 1992])

A chapter based on a Galaxy-class vessel -- USS Constellation (NCC-71855) -- was established in 2009 in Paducah.
