The USS Challenger (NCC-12886) was an Akira-class Starfleet starship commissioned on 28th January 2383. The ship was named for the space shuttle of the same name, which broke up exactly 397 years before the launch of this vessel. The 24th century ship was commanded by Captain T'Pen and sent on a mission to inspire, teach and learn. (UFOP: StarBase 118)

The ship's motto was a quote made in 1985 by former United States president Ronald Reagan: "Give me a challenge, and I'll meet it with joy."
