A tug is a limited role starship designed to tow starships or other large objects to another destination. Also known as a towing vessel, a tug is almost always fitted with a tractor beam. (DS9: "A Time to Stand")

In the early days of the Dominion War, the USS Fredrickson had to be towed to Federation space for repairs. (DS9: "A Time to Stand")
