Third officer

The third officer is the fourth-in-command aboard a starship or starbase, second in the command structure only to the commanding, first and second officers.

The third officer usually holds the rank of lieutenant commander or lieutenant and can hold a variety of positions aboard a ship or station in addition to the third officer role.
