A strike occurs when a group of employees or students refused to work because they had some complaint about the working conditions that their employer was apparently unwilling to correct. Such events were often organized by unions.

In 2372, Rom led a strike of the employees of Quark's (including the stewards and dabo girls) calling themselves the Guild of Restaurant and Casino Employees. (DS9: "Bar Association")

Types of strikeEdit

Student strikes were strikes organized by students, usually at an university level or otherwise higher learning institutions. Such strikes could have a set duration, after which it can be renewed, with the highest level being an unlimited general strike. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Rode the 300")

Rotating strikes were strikes where employees/students, while voting on strikes as a body, don't stop working/studying all at once. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "The Defector")

When the first strikes were declared, the students/employees on strike used pitchforks, pickaxes and torches to carry out their picketing duty, which were later replaced by picket signs and megaphones as technology evolved. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "The Defector")

Strikes in Star Trek fanonEdit

Chemical industries manufacturing hydroxyquinoline and oxalyl chloride located on Mysidia went on strike in 2387, shortly after the destruction of Romulus. (RIS Bouteina: "Midwife")

In 2012, Concordia University, Edouard Montpetit College, Laval University and the University of Montreal all had students on unlimited general strike, including the student members of the PHYSUM, to protest a proposed $1,625 tuition hike over 5 years in Quebec, alongside other colleges and universities.

Also, in 2401, universities all across Malachor V were on strike to protest a tuition hike that made tuition double, among which Aldanna University and Lagdou University. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Rode the 300", "The Defector")

In 2402, teachers' unions on Peladine went on strike, causing at least 103 million children to miss school. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Educational Armageddon")
