Starbase 44 was a Starfleet facility active in the 24th century, and one of the closest Federation bases to the Great Rift region.

In 2370, the neural energies of the crew of USS Oraidhe were eaten by an intellivore. USS Enterprise-D towed Oraidhe to Starbase 44 for later recommissioning and crew replacement. (TNG novel: Intellivore)
