Shuttlebay
The Star Trek Expanded Universe Database is for fanon and related content. See Memory-Alpha.org for the canon Star Trek wiki.
The shuttlebay (also called a hanger deck or launch bay) is an area on a starship or space station where shuttlecraft can be stored and maintained for operations off the vessel or station.
When not launching or receiving craft the space doors for a shuttlebay are usually closed. When they are opened a force field is deployed over the opening, which can be penetrated by shuttles as the launch and are recovered without compromising the atmosphere within the bay itself.
Shuttlebays were often equipped with tractor beam emitters to assist in the landing of damaged or inoperable vessels. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "The Front")
Some shuttlebays on Federation starships were equipped with a starship catapult to aid in launching craft from the vessel. (Dragon Ball Z vs. Star Trek: The Way of Infinity)
The shuttlebay on the USS Swiftfire-A was heavily damaged during battle that saw the forward section have the deck above collapse into the shuttlebay. It took several weeks for the damage to be repaired. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "The True", "Into the Fire")
