A science fair is a competition where contestants present their science project results in the form of a report, display board, and models that they have created. Science fairs allow students in grade schools and high schools to compete in science and/or technology activities.

Customs[]

The Farquarsons handed some legislative seats to the winners of top tier science fairs. (RIS Bouteina: "Four Redshirts and a Shirt")

It was not unheard of among Starfleet to organize science fairs when the venue (a starbase or a starship on occasion) has a large amount of children. (TNG: "Disaster", VOY: "Child's Play")

Lyrans were staunch opponents of traditional science fairs because they placed too much focus on competition, a charge which science fair supporters answered by pointing to the real world competitive nature of awarding scientific grants. Because of widespread opposition among the Lyran population, the Lyran science fairs were dominated by non-Lyrans, such as Malachorians.

Romulans often left the judging of science fairs to people whose scientific knowledge was rather basic at the lower tiers of competition. In that instance, both primary and high school contestants competed at the same time. (RIS Bouteina: "A Tale of Two Holodecks")
