Samuel Joshua Cruz was a Human male who served in Starfleet in the mid-24th century. (Star Trek: Daedalus)
Born in Mexico City, Mexico on Earth in July 2342, Samuel was the eldest child of Juanita and Ernesto Cruz. Samuel's younger sister, Jessica, was born eight years later. Both children spent much of their early life on Earth, only venturing as far as Luna or Mars on the rare occassion. Because of this rare contact with space or alien life-forms, both children developed an interest in different cultures and wanted to join Starfleet.
Upon turning 18 in 2360, Samuel passed his entrance exams into Starfleet Academy and started his first year in September of that year. He graduated in the 75% percentile in 2364 and earned honors in piloting and celestial navigation. Because of his honors, Ensign Cruz earned the position as alpha shift flight controller aboard the Ambassador-class USS Kadosca.
In late 2366, Samuel arranged some shore leave time so that he could attend a family reunion on Earth. En route, Admiral J.P. Hanson ordered the Kadosca to rendezvous with the Federation task force that was massing near Wolf 359 in order to intercept a Borg cube which was on a direct course for Earth.
Despite being officially on leave, Samuel reported to his post. Unfortunately, the Kadosca was destroyed in the opening minutes of the battle and Samuel was instantly killed when a Borg cutting beam penetrated the bridge and sliced up the primary hull.
Over ten years later, a group of Vendorians working with Captain Jack Harkness were able to infiltrate the USS Daedalus by assuming the form of crew members deceased family members and friends, whose images they gained from reading their minds. Because Jessica Cruz was serving aboard the Daedalus at this time, one of the Vendorians assumed Samuel's identity. ("Ghosts"; "Sleeper")
