[edit] Use

Check unused files.

  • A) Try to find a good place to use unused images, or tag for deletion.
  • B) If they're just clutter – for example, relics of a copy from another wiki (MAlpha, MBeta, Wikipedia) – tag with a special template so they can be deleted (or perhaps someone will see a place to use them before then).

Images can be undeleted if necessary.

[edit] Describe

Provide at least a short description of the image.

[edit] Source/credit

Try to establish and link the image source, and/or provide proper accreditation. "Official" screenshots from canon productions (TOS, TNG, etc.) should have the {{imageparamount}} template placed, and be properly categorized by series with {{cim}} (e.g. {{cim|TOS}}).

Actor images should name the actor(s) in the image with a link to that actor's page on this wiki or elsewhere (typically Wikipedia or Memory Alpha). Example: See Image:JohnCarter.jpg. (This is not necessary for all canon screenshots.)

[edit] Resize

Unusually large images (over 150kb) should be cut and/or downsized, if possible. This lessens the load on Wikia servers and internet connections. Smaller images often communicate just as well as large images. External links can point to higher resolution images located off-site.

[edit] Categorize

In tandem with STEU Project:Categories, efficiently maintain the image category system.

Check uncategorized images. Categorize into the most appropriate available categories, or if necessary, make new image categories using the established pattern. (Search for an existing category before creating a new one.) It should be in the mind of every single person uploading images that those images should be categorized.

[edit] Watch

Monitor the upload log for images failing to meet the above criteria. Correct as necessary.
