Rutgers University (officially Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey) was a university founded in the 18th century as Queen's College and renamed in 1825 after Colonel Henry Rutgers, a hero of the American Revolutionary War. Beginning in 1945, it was the state university of New Jersey, in the United States of America. At the beginning of the 21st century, it had three physical campuses, in New Brunswick, Newark and Camden.
Philosophy was one of the university's specialities well into the 25th century, and was renowned to be very difficult to get into for people that attended Lyran high schools. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Post-Apocalyptic Education")
