[edit] Summary
As the Gateway crisis grips the rest of the Alpha Quadrant, the USS Daedalus is ordered to Kora II, a Cardassian planet. On arrival, the Daedalus crew discover that an Iconian gateway has opened up on the surface of the planet and is linked to a Borg planet located in the Delta Quadrant.
Unfortunately, the Borg have discovered the gateway and have begun to crossover to investigate and assimilate the inhabitants. With no other options, Christopher Mackenzie and his crew have no choice but to stand and fight with their former Cardassian enemies, to fight the rampaging Borg.
[edit] Background notes
This story was originally meant to be based upon the Doctor Who television serial, The Power of the Daleks, a Patrick Troughton serial from 1966. In this original story, the Cardassian settlers found a crashed centuries-old Borg vessel located under the surface of the planet.
Inside the cube are several drones who barely resemble the Borg they recognize, but the Cardassians reactivate them and discover that they are eager to serve. However, the Borg soon turn on their Cardassian masters and assimilate them.
However, it was decided by the writers not to pursue this as an idea (yet!!), and instead to retool the story using the Gateway crisis as a focus.
