Battle of Tyra Raid on Sector 432 Operation Blue Room

The Raid on Sector 432 was a joint military operation between the Klingons and Federation forces that took place three months after the start of the Dominion War. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Pressure Points")

Three months into the war with the Dominion the Federation had suffered numerous defeats and was in retreat. To slow the Dominion push into Federation space two simultaneous operations were planned. The main thrust of the operation would be in the Tyra system where the Seventh fleet would engage and turn back a major enemy force. The second part of the operation was a raid on Sector 432. The earlier captured sector was providing major logistical support for the Dominion and Cardassian forces in their push forward. The objective was to destroy the large dock facility in the sector. It was hoped that this loss with the losses dealt to the enemy fleet by the Seventh fleet would stop or at least slow down the advances the Dominion was making.

The raid was placed under the command of General Gar of the Klingon Ninth Battlegroup of the Klingon Defence Force. The General's fleet (one hundred and seventy-six vessels) would be supported by the Fifth fleet (two hundred and forty-five vessels) in the operation. The Klingons would approach under cloak and then strike at the defending forces. Once this action was under way the Starfleet forces would then reinforce the Klingons and destroy the docks.

The operation started as planned but the facility's shields proved too tough for the fleet to take down. Given the sectors location within what was now Dominion space the defenders received a flow of reinforcements to bolster their forces. So while the allied fleet held a numerical advantage for most of the battle it had to deal with an almost constant wave of fresh Dominion and Cardassian warships. This meant that the fleet had a time limit on how long it could remain and assault the fleet yards.

Luckily a weak point was located in the station's shields and a small strike force of Starfleet Marines was deployed on the station. The Marine's mission was to take out the yard's power plants, which would bring down the protective shield.

While the fleet waited for the Marine's to complete their mission they received startling news. Having routed the Seventh fleet the Dominion fleet was doubling back to join the battle in Sector 432. With time running out General Gar ordered the fleet to retreat, its mission incomplete. But in a dramatic finish the Marine's managed to succeed in their mission and bring down the facility’s shields allowing the USS Swiftfire-A to complete the objective. The fleet retreated back to Federation space its mission a success.

The raid on the sector was considered a tactical success but it was not the strategic success that Starfleet had wanted. The failure of the main objective at Tyra meant that the Dominion push was not stemmed, despite the hampered logistics. The battle would have a positive effect on morale within the Fifth fleet despite the losses suffered by the Seventh fleet. Unfortunately the devastating losses at Tyra would over shadow this victory in the minds of most Starfleet and Klingon personnel and have a telling negative impact in allied forces morale at that point in the conflict.
