[edit] Pre-Swiftfire history

By the time the Dominion War started she was a captain and in charge of a company in the Mobile Response Force (MRF). She saw action on a dozen different planets and outposts as part of the MRF before been reassigned to the USS Swiftfire-A ("Section 214C")

[edit] Service on the USS Swiftfire-A

Daley was transferred to the Swiftfire when the ship returned 2374 in the middle of 2374 for repairs and was placed in command of the Fourth Platoon of the 83rd Marine Company. ("No Rest for the Wicked") She soon saw action again when on the way back to the front the Swiftfire was boarded by Jem'Hadar where she was tasked with securing the ship's bridge and nearby sections. ("Q, Time and Again")

Prior to the invasion of Chin'toka Captain Daley led her platoon on a mission to capture a Cardassian surveillance post to cover the Swiftfire's entry into the Badlands. During the mission the Captain's platoon and the supporting squadron of fighters from the Swiftfire were taken over by Special Operations Command (SOC) for a mission against a secret Cardassian shipyards building the latest Dominion warships. The mission was a success and saw the destruction of a number of Dominion heavy warships as well as significant damage to the shipyard facility. The most important outcome however was the appropriation of a Jem'Hadar dreadnought for Starfleet Intelligence. ("A Dreadful Operation")

Captain Daley's platoon remained on the Swiftfire while the other three platoons were part of the Chin'toka ground invasion forces. Captain Daley escorted Captain Masters to Deep Space 9 for the funeral of Lt. Commander Jadzia Dax following the battle. ("Into the Fire")

On the return trip to the Swiftfire their shuttle crashed on an uninhabited planet. Captain Masters was incapacitated by the native wildlife and despite severe weather she managed to get them both to safety. She kept the Masters alive until they were rescued by the USS Covington from Task Force 59. ("Waiting for the Sun")

With the death of the previous second-in-command in the Chin'toka invasion Daley was made second-in-command of the company. She also received a promotion to Major thanks to her service on the Swiftfire, with SOC and the Mobile Response Force. ("Section 214C")

Not long after her was notified that Captain Masters had died in a shuttle accident. She refused to believe this and her disbelief was crucial in the crew finding out that the captain was still alive. She then led Fourth platoon in the search for the Masters and successfully recovered the wayward commanding officer. ("Crossfire")

After suffering from some sort of panic attack she was prescribed medication by Doctor Carol Murphy and ordered to attend counselling sessions with the ship's counselor. This was not the first time she had sought help from the counsellor having previously sort help to deal with a set of recurring dreams she was experiencing. ("Crossfire", "Always on My Mind")

Daley and her platoon were deployed to the surface of Echla to protect a team from the USS Swiftfire-A to assist the Echlan Totality in rescuing people trapped by the collapse of their capitol building and to investigate the site. ("The Only Thing Necessary")

[edit] Relationships

She is generally gets on well with the crew of the Swiftfire. She is well liked within the Marine contingent and by the general crew of the ship. This is because of her pleasant personality and attitude. If someone looks like they need help, even if she doesn't really know them, she was offer to help them out. ("Change in Command")

[edit] Jonathan Masters

The two met before she was posted on the Swiftfire and it was apparent there was a connection. When they first met she gave him her middle name since she met him in the middle of the night outside a bar. The two did not realise they would soon be serving together and parted agreeing to meet the other when the war was over. ("No Rest for the Wicked")

It would take them several days before either would realise that they were on the same ship. When they did they decided to keep their relationship professional. It was partly so not to complicate each others lives and because Daley's rule of not dating people within the direct command structure she was in. ("Q, Time and Again")

As time went by she changed her mind. With her mind and heart in the same place she however decided to wait for Captain Masters to come to the same realisation as she had. ("A Dreadful Operation")

Daley eventually decided to take action. No longer willing to wait and with Masters' fake death in early 2375, she decided to be the one to make the next move. She confronted him with how she felt and was delighted to see that her feelings were reciprocated. ("Crossfire")

Her connection with Masters seems to be more intriguing then it appears. She has been able to feel when his life is in serious danger. She first felt this feeling when the Jem'Hadar boarded the Swiftfire in mid-2374. At the time she dismissed it as nerves due to the boarding action. However, it later played a role in pushing her into an attempt to rescue Masters after he went to sacrifice himself by flying a sabotaged fighter away from the Swiftfire. ("Q, Time and Again")

While undertaking the mission with SOC Daley was again confronted with the feeling of danger to Masters' life and the need to head to aid him. This coincided with the Swiftfire's battle with the Vendoth in the Badlands, where Masters was captured, tortured and nearly killed. ("A Dreadful Operation", "The True")

In early 2375, she once again had these feeling, which resulted in a panic attack. Once again they coincided with a near death experience with Masters when his shuttlecraft crashed on Caprius III. Despite the reports of Masters' death she refused to believe them as the feeling that he was still in peril had not left her. She was proven correct as the crew discovered that the events of Masters' death as they had been reported were fabricated. ("A Dreadful Operation", "Crossfire")

[edit] Background information

  • This character was introduced as a replacement for Major Rachel Stevens as the love interest for Captain Masters. This meant changes had to be made to "United We Stand" to replace Stevens with this character. Due to the fact the "Rachel" was used more then "Stevens" in the story it was simpler to switch out the surname only.
