[edit] Astronomical data

[edit] Location

Qo'noS is about four days away from Sol at warp 4.5, putting the planet about 1.4 lightyears from Earth.

This fact seems questionable, considering that the nearest star to Earth is Proxima Centauri, which is 4.22 lightyears away. Also, an evacuation of the planet was being planned in 2293, which would have altered the distance between Earth and the Klingon Homeworld.

[edit] Further information

[edit] Historical

In 2293, a nearby moon, Praxis, exploded due to an accident involving over-mining. The subspace shockwave sent out by the explosion caused damage severe damage to Qo'noS's ozone layer, forcing planning for the evacuation of the planet. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

[edit] Geographical

Qo'noS has a single land mass and a vast ocean. The planet also has a severely titled axis, which causes extreme weather shifts and wild seasonal changes. (DS9: "Once More Unto the Breach")

[edit] Cities

The capital of Qo'noS is First City. Other cities include Qam-Chee, Quin-lat, and Tong Vey.

[edit] Background

It remains unclear if the Qo'noS seen in ENT: "Broken Bow, Part One" is the same planet as seen in TNG and DS9 episodes, as the evacuation of the original Qo'noS was never seen on screen, but only mentioned at the 2293 Khitomer Conference.
