Post-Apocalyptic Education is the thirteenth episode of Star Trek: The Stoneship Files.

Summary[]

Act 1[]

Brianna Reiss was waiting for her bargaining table turn; prior to that, she got the teachers on the ship to plan a diversion, which gets them right into a protest near a high school where a college fair was held on Peladine, along with the children and the non-essential crewmemebers. Around the bargaining table, the two parties debate about the utility of an elected school board and the curriculum standardization, including the amount of standardized testing, as well as how to fund for the diverse demands of the teachers' union, such as cutting administrative posts and removal of merit pay.

Act 2[]

As the college fair gets underway, the faculty of the high school circles around the school accompanied by hundreds of Stoneship crewmen, with students from Herguan University and Dalmasca University on strike to support the current teachers. Mandy Guilmain started operating her fortune-telling booth, with files for Eldeon University on Xita, Rutgers University and Seirauna University. But, with Mandy departing to protest, Rylie takes her booth over, in an effort to show that the Sable Order hasn't given up on the people.

Act 3[]

Offered either smaller class sizes or chopping from the top in exchange of withdrawing the elected school board, the union negotiators ask Brianna to open the blind and the Lyran duke Roshak see that the population of Ranel is angry after the duke's policy, later proceeding to have a heated debate about the role of education in economical development, as well as short vs. long-term educational agenda. While there are no longer picket lines, and the protest having long departed, Rylie becomes a provisional college counselor for the Stoneship when the crewmen return.

Act 4[]

Back on the ship, the crewmen discuss their university experience, with scholarship spots reserved for certain types of schools. Later on, Brianna is summoned to the captain's ready room in order to receive a code 47 call pertaining to Roshak, launched from the Enterprise, pertaining to the crimes they committed, all of which were violations under Title XI and for which the Enterprise has been dispatched as a prison ship for Goursat's first assignment as a Sable Order member. Just moments prior to arrest, Roshak agreed to all of the union's demands except for the elected school board and the strike is over.
