Peter J. Maxwell was a Starfleet officer serving as the captain of the USS Pioneer for her first four years of service. (Star Trek: Pioneer (PNR))

Not to be confused with Mark Montgomery who bears a resemblance.

After impressive service on the USS Nova, Maxwell was promoted to the rank of Captain and granted command of the first modified Sovereign class starship, the Pioneer.

In an alternate timeline where the Federation lost the Battle of Beta Frontier, Captain Maxwell was the only one to survive the USS Pioneer's destruction. He spent the next few years fighting against the invading forces from the future however the Federation fell. By 2401 Maxwell lived in Tycho City on Luna, he had spent most of his time gathering information from small remnants of Starfleet regarding the enemy's plans for total galactic domination. On stardate 79588.4 Maxwell prepared to assasinate the commander-in-chief at the activation of the Lunar time portal however just as he was about to beam directly to the location he was stopped by Daniels. The two then journyed to 2387 and the Battle of Beta Frontier where they changed history allowing the Federation to win. This version of Maxwell, protected from the changes, lived the rest of his life in the 31^st century.
