A medical technician, also known as a med tech, performs specialist technical tasks in a medical context. Medical technicians often work in a medical facility aboard a starship or starbase.
Lieutenant Alex Freeman was a medical technician assigned to the USS Enterprise during James T. Kirk's first five-year mission as commanding officer. (Star Trek: Phase II: "Blood and Fire", Parts 1 and 2; "Going Boldly")
Matthew Donahugh, after graduating from Starfleet Medical Academy, served as a medical technician at Starfleet Medical and was later promoted to chief medical technician. (Star Trek: Remington)
