Maria Bennett was a Human female who served in Starfleet as a nurse in the late 24th century. In the late 2370s, Bennett served aboard the USS Daedalus under the direct command of chief medical officer, Doctor James Maxwell. (Star Trek: Daedalus)
The daughter of Elizabeth and Geoffrey Bennett, Maria was born in the city of New Berlin, Luna on March 26, 2355. While her mother and father were teachers, Bennett decided that she wanted to pursue a career in nursing from a young age.
After completing her education in 2371 at the age of 16, Bennett was accepted into the Starfleet Academy Teaching Hospital on Earth where she received her basic medical training. After completing her three year course at the Teaching Hospital, she was assigned to the USS Enterprise-E in 2374, where she worked under the direction of Head Nurse Alyssa Ogawa.
[edit] Aboard the Daedalus
In late 2375, Bennett was assigned to the nursing staff aboard the USS Daedalus, then under the command of Captain Janice Stenton. Shortly after signing aboard, the Daedalus was one of many starships that were scrambled to fight off a Breen attack force that had attacked San Francisco. During the battle, the Daedalus's bridge module was hit and many of the senior staff were killed. Despite possible risk to herself, Bennett climbed up the turboshaft to the bridge and rescued several crew members that had survived the attack, including Commander Selok.
For her actions Bennett was both reprimanded and rewarded at the same time. Doctor Maxwell placed a notation in her permanent file about the risk she took going to the stricken bridge, but also put in a recommendation that she be granted the rank of ensign for her bravery. ("War Stories")
