Magnetic resonance imaging was a medical imaging technique used to see the insides of patients.
Stoneship-class starships were equipped with a MRI unit; Rikert operated a MRI unit to find gallstones within a patient, prescribing triclenidil to that patient. However, MRIs were slow. (Star Trek: The Stoneship Files: "Ancient Horrors")
