[edit] Further information
[edit] Historical
The Moon is believed to have been created when a Mars-sized planetesimal (designated Theia by 20th century astrophysicists) collided with Earth in its early history.
USS Empire was at Luna VII repair bay on stardate 8513.01. (Research Anthology: "Cross Fire: The Tholian Slaughter")
- In an alternate timeline in which the Federation lost the Battle of Beta Frontier, Luna was the site where Future Guy constructed his time portal to bring thousands of soldiers from the 29th century into 2401. It was also the location of Peter Maxwell's home. (Star Trek: Pioneer (PNR): "Destiny of Freedom")
[edit] Political
As a major human settlement, Luna falls under Federation jurisdiction and protection. It is also a subdivision of United Earth.
In the 24th century there are over 50 million people living on the Moon. In Earth slang, people who lived on the moon were called lunar schooners. The lunar inhabitants were not fond of the term. (Star Trek: First Contact; DS9: "Valiant"; Star Trek: Pendragon: "Children of the Burning Heart")
[edit] Geographical
One of the three monoliths that made up the Alien Obelisk Sol-Sirius Network was located on Luna. (Dimensional Prophecy of Zohar)
[edit] Locations
- The Vulcanis Lunar Colony is presumably not located on a moon of Vulcan, as it does not have any moons. Given its name, it may be on Luna.
