A light explorer is a category of the explorer classification used by the Federation, Starfleet. These vessels are much smaller then typical explorers but still pack substantial exploration capabilities into their small frame. In 2371, the first in a line of light explorers was launched with the commissioning of the Intrepid-class. (LUG RPG: Spacedock: The Advanced Starship and Construction Manual)
