|Born:||October 3, 2315|
Lawrence Potter obtained a degree in psychology from Oxford University in 2343. Before entering Starfleet, he spent several years as a criminal profiler with the Federation Bureau of Investigation, achieving the rank of special agent. During his time there, he was decorated several times for his efforts in tracking violent offenders, including serial killers. After several years, however, the stress of his job began to wear on him, and he decided to join Starfleet and become a counselor. Because of his experience and the fact that he would not be a line officer, he did not have to attend the Academy, but instead received a direct commission. (ST: TNF "Archangel")
As of 2370, Potter had been in Starfleet for over fifteen years. In his time, he had seen various assignments. That year, he was assigned as the head counselor aboard the USS Repulse. (ST: TNF "Baptism of Fire")
Despite his rank and standing, Potter does not consider himself to be regular officer, and thus eschews visiting the bridge or advising the captain, unless his advice is solicited. He spends much of his time in his office, or in Ten Forward, and is always to drop whatever he is doing to help a member of the crew.
Potter has counseled every member of the crew at one time or another, with the exception of Captain James Farrell. Farrell, and many of the older officers aboard, tend to view Potter with some skepticism, believing that it is inappropriate for an officer to spend time crying about his feelings. With those notable exceptions, Potter is well liked by the remainder of the crew.
Not much about his personal life is known. He spends the majority of his time immersed in his job, and it is a source of endless speculation among the crew as to exactly what he spends his personal time doing.
