[edit] Early life and career
Lara was born into slavery in 2246 somewhere in Orion space, she was then purchased in 2248 at the age of two. She was then stolen/rescued from slavery at age twelve by Eric and Veronica Maximillian and taken in as their own and raised on a Federation colony (Omicron Theta). She was assigned to USS Potemkin as an Ensign in 2267 where she meets and befriends Ensign Jeffery Pierce. In 2280 she is promoted to Commander and becomes the First Officer of USS Constitution under the command of Captain Linda Sopher. In 2284 she is brought up on charges and court martialed for an incident in which she overrides Sopher's command, she was then removed as First Officer of Constitution. While ultimately proven correct in her actions the event leaves a black mark on her record. Uncertain about her future, Lara spent a brief period of time as "inactive" until she was offered the opportunity to serve as First Officer of the second Constellation-class vessel, USS Hathaway under the command of her former shipmate and friend, Jeffery Pierce.

Lara was the first Orion female to enter Starfleet Academy. She graduated in 2267 and assigned to USS Potemkin (NCC-1657) as Ensign where she meets Jeffery Pierce for the first time and they become friends.

In 2280, she was promoted to Commander and became First Officer of the USS Constitution (NCC-1700). Is involved in an incident in 2284 on the USS Constitution where she overrides her captain's authority. A later investigation reveals she acted appropriately and probably saved the Constitution. The Captain did not agree and removed her as First Officer. While exhonerated of wrongdoing the incident left a "black mark" on her record. In 2285, she is reassigned as First Officer of USS Hathaway as per request of Captain Jeffery Pierce.
