After graduating from the University of Kansas, Katia entered into officer training at Starfleet Academy.
By 2376, Katia had been assigned to the USS Wasp as a Flight controller. In April of 2376, Katia requested leave so that she could find out what had happened to her friend, Sara Jackson, when she was told she had passed away in a shuttle accident. In doing so, she encountered USS Baldwin captain Patrick Ingrum, who explained what had actually happened - Sara had been shot by a Section 31 agent. After thinking it over through a dream, she agreed to help revive Sara using the Vorta cloning process and to be the one to explain everything to her friend. (USS Baldwin: "Infinity")
In June, she was on duty when the Wasp encountered a Jem'Hadar attack ship while charting subspace currents along the Cardassian border. An investigation revealed that the 'warbugs' were under the command of Khan. (USS Baldwin: "Evolution")
In January 2377, Katia went undercover as a mercenary as part of an investigation into the theft of kemocite from the Romulan warbird Ronax. With the help of Quark, she sold 30 tons of kemocite to an group of the Orion Syndicate led by a female named Malina. After selling the Kemocite, Katia helped the Romulans in capturing the buyers. (USS Baldwin: "Ronax")
Katia and Sara Jackson had been friends since at least high school, where they both participated in a dance group.
