Karen Howe

Lieutenant commander Karen Howe is the tactical officer, security chief and second officer of the Federation starship USS Remington. (Star Trek: Remington: "Inceptum")

History

Early life

Karen Howe was born in 2349 on Mars to civilian parents. Despite not having any members of Starfleet in her family tree, she decided to enter Starfleet Academy when she finished high school.

Starfleet Command

When Howe graduated from the Academy, she was assigned to Starfleet Security and stationed at Starfleet Command as part of heightened security due to the Dominion threat. Soon after her promotion to lieutenant junior grade, she requested a transfer to another assignment and found herself on a transport to Deep Space Nine, only months before the war began.

Deep Space Nine

Howe's time on board DS9 was short, but long enough for her to gain a promotion to lieutenant and deputy security chief on the station. She, along with the rest of the Starfleet complement of the station, was forced to evacuate after the Dominion took the station. Five months later, she participated in Operation Return and returned to her previous post. However, a short time after the operation, the captain of the USS Meyers, who happened to be a past friend of her father's, requested that she take a position on board his vessel. Howe accepted.

USS Meyers

Throughout the rest of the Dominion War, Lieutenant Howe served on board the Meyers, seeing several major battles, including Starfleet's humiliating defeat at the Battle of Betazed. Howe even served along her future commanding officer, Richard Boswell, when both the Meyers and the USS Lexington, of which Boswell was first officer, took part in one of the main charges of the First Battle of Chin'toka.

USS Remington

After serving on the Meyers for nine years, Howe was promoted to lieutenant commander and offered the position of tactical officer on board the newly-commissioned USS Remington. In addition to her primary duties as tactical officer, Howe also became the security chief and the second officer. As second officer, she was the interim first officer until Commander Trevak, the Romulan first officer, came on board.
