A journalist is a person who collects, writes, or distributes news or other current information. A journalist's work is referred to as journalism. A journalist can work with general issues or specialize in certain issues, however, most journalists tend to specialize, and by cooperating with other journalists produce media that span many topics.

A reporter is a journalist that researches, writes and reports on information and news for dissemination in media.
An editorialist is a journalist that is primarily writing on opinion pieces for a given media outlet on a given issue. Editorialists often engage in activism themselves, or otherwise do advocacy journalism.
A knowledge journalist is a journalist that also serves as an expert analyst on a given topic. Knowledge journalists are often associated with politics.
