Janna Talmadge was a Starfleet line officer of the 23rd century.

Not much is known of Talmadge's younger years, save that she was in her late 20's when she began studies at the Starfleet Academy Command Staff College in 2274. Among her classmates and close friends and rivals were Alexander Rosenzweig, Gita Divakurunii, and Shrevas sh'Zanasethri. Years later, Rosenzweig would say of Talmadge that he believed her to be "incapable of jealousy". (Star Trek: Avenger: "Belonging")

In 2294 at Starbase 29, Talmadge -- by then in command of the USS Ajax -- attended the funeral of a Starfleet officer she had known. ("Belonging" framing story)

Talmadge was among the line and flag officers who attended the appointment of the Flight Test Team commander of Shadowstar Station in 2296. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: "Pomp and Circumstantial Evidence")

Background[]

From the author: "The name Janna Talmadge came to me out of the blue when I was first writing "Belonging" in the early 90's. The surname sounded strong to me and it's probable that I had the conservative former governor of, later U.S. senator from, Georgia -- Herman Talmadge (1913-2002) -- as an unconscious influence. When I thought of who might play Janna in a series at different ages, two actresses came to mind who had always played strong women -- and who both happened to be from the American South."
