The hypospray is a piece of medical equipment designed to inject drugs and treatments into the body in a painless and noninvasive way.
Also called a hypo, the user inserts a vial in the device's bottom, then administers the treatment. The device utilizes compressed air, eliminating the need for a hypodermic or other type of needle, reducing the likelihood of an infection at the treatment site. The treatment can be administered to multiple people on their skin or through their clothing without the threat of spreading infection or illness. (TNG: "Angel One")
The user can control the dosage near the device's head. The 23rd century hypospray looked more like an intravenous needle used in previous centuries, while the 24th century version was altered radically to allow easier administration. It also appeared more intuitive to use, as not only medical but also non-medical personnel could utilize the hypospray. (TOS: "Amok Time"; TNG: "Haven")
