Hayden Christopher Ivan Pope was a Starfleet junior officer on active duty in the late 23rd century. (Star Trek: Avenger: "Belonging")

Records showed that Pope was born in Ares City, the Martian Colonies, in 2269. He was a nephew of Admiral Helena Pope.

It is revealed in the course of the story that the younger Pope was adopted, but it was not revealed if one of his adoptive parents was a sibling or an in-law of the admiral's.

As an ensign, Pope was assigned to USS Avenger in 2292 as a helmsman after being the center of controversy on different starships — including USS Chandrasekhar, USS Sirius and USS Soyuz. He improves the efficiency of Avenger's warp engines, which results in the ship being displaced enough to have to realign its SINS.

In the end, Pope was revealed as a higher-order noncorporeal being who considers that the Federation is not yet ready for his "improvements", which he then removes from all the ships.

Background[]

Pope's initials are an anagram of the word "chip" (as in "...off the old block"), which was a hint as to his true origins.
