Alec Grigory

Fleet Captain Alec Grigory was a seasoned space veteran, an able commander who had commanded five starships in his lifetime. He was a soft-spoken man of Russian descent. Starfleet Career

Grigory graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2265 and was assigned to the USS Marengo. On his first mission, he was captured and taken prisoner by Orion pirates for several months until he was rescued by the USS Bismarck. (Bismarck (Eagle comic): "Into the Orion's Den").

Later in his career as a captain, one of his ships was shot out from beneath him by Acamarian pirates. In the 2290s, he was promoted to commanding officer of the heavy cruiser USS Potemkin. Being commander of a Federation starship named for a historical Russian vessel was a great honor for him.

Grigory was declared missing in action in 2299 as he appears to have gone down with his ship as he gave time for his crew to escape, via transporters and escape pods, during a battle with the Romulans. ("Destinies")

Per Captain Eva Privette, Grigory was declared "missing and presumed dead" by 2301. ("The Castaway")

Grigory is wearing a fleet captain's rank insignia in "Destinies" and "The Castaway", but this may be an indication of senior captain status rather than a production error, as the editor previously assumed.
