Samaritan "Sam" Bowers was a human male serving in Starfleet in the 24th century. A twenty year veteran, Bowers served aboard Deep Space 9 and the USS Defiant in the late 2370s, then the USS Aventine in the 2380s.

History[]

Sam Bowers joined Starfleet sometime in the mid-2350s. (DS9 novel: Warpath)

The novel is set in 2377 and refers to Bowers as a "twenty-odd year veteran" of the fleet. The reference is ambiguous enough that it could be including his time at the Academy, or strictly post-graduation.

USS Budapest[]

Prior to his service aboard DS9, Bowers served on the USS Budapest as tactical officer, where he was forced to kill several of his shipmates assimilated by the Borg during the Battle of Sector 001. (DS9 novels: Avatar, Lesser Evil)

Deep Space 9 and the Defiant[]

By early 2376, Bowers had been assigned to DS9 as a senior security officer and later served as tactical officer during the Defiant's three-month exploratory mission of the Gamma Quadrant in the middle of that year. (DS9 novels: The Left Hand of Destiny; Mission Gamma: Twilight, This Gray Spirit, Cathedral, Lesser Evil)

USS Aventine[]

In 2381, Bowers was promoted to Commander and assigned as first officer of the USS Aventine under Captain Ezri Dax. He would continue to serve in that position throughout the 2380s. (Star Trek: Destiny novel: Gods of Night, Star Trek: Typhon Pact novel: Brinkmanship)

During the Dominion War, Bowers served as a Sergeant in the Military Assault Command Operations and was assigned to the USS Lambda Paz in 2375. He was part of the team led by Captain Limis Vircona searching for Doctor Aurellan Markalis after she left the ship to prevent the arrest of a group of Augments led by Rhys Darcen. After the Captain's yacht was shot down, Bowers and Lieutenant Lisa Neeley tended to their wounded colleague Les Galloway. (Star Trek: Lambda Paz: "Religion To Do Good")

After the war, Bowers received a battlefield commission, and he eventually ascended to the rank of lieutenant by 2378. Because he had been an enlisted man most of his career, he was open to having younger superior officers. This was the case when Ezri Dax commanded the Defiant while it was monitoring Benjamin Sisko's undercover mission. (Star Trek: War Aftermath: "Omega")

In this series, Sam Bowers was "played" by Roger Cross.

Star Trek: Pendragon[]

After the Federation Civil War, Bowers was assigned as Security Chief aboard the USS Defiant, where he served for about five years. Upon the completed of Project Restoration in 2379, Bowers was assigned as head of Starfleet Security aboard the new DS9 alongside Constable Odo of the Bajoran Militia. (PDN: "Restoration")

During his service aboard DS9, Bowers came to be close friends with the station's chief counselor, Ezri Dax and forged an unusual camaraderie with the Jem'Hadar liaison officer Taran'atar.

In photomanipulations produced for Star Trek: Pendragon, Sam Bowers was played by actor Shemar Moore.
