The Federation News Service (FNS) is a media agency that publishes and broadcasts news throughout the United Federation of Planets and known space.
- The UFP Infonet (FASA) may be the name for this agency in another continuity.
The headquarters of the FNS were located in San Francisco in a multi-story high-rise. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Task Force 59")
In 2359, the FNS was abuzz with reports that Starfleet was beefing up its presence along the Cardassian border. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "What Little Girls are Made Of")
The Peregrine-class pilots on the USS Swiftfire often had FNS news reports on one of the monitors in their dispersal area. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Deployment")
FNS reports during the early months of the Dominion War painted a bleak picture, though the reality of the situation was much bleaker. The reports were bad enough to make people on Earth nervous despite its distance from the front and the two fleets positioned specifically to defend the Sol system. (DS9: "A Time to Stand", Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Moral Actions")
FNS reporter Jasmine Carter and a camera operator were sent to interview the crew of the USS Swiftfire-A following Operation Return. While onboard they witnessed a battle between Starfleet Task Force 59, including the Swiftfire, against a Dominion carrier group. However, due to the Swiftfire's captain about to undertake an undercover mission Starfleet Command convinced the FNS to sit on the story for several weeks. It was finally allowed to be published just before the First Battle of Chin'toka. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Task Force 59", "A Rough Time", "Into the Fire")
The FNS reported on the wedding between Jadzia Dax and Worf on Deep Space 9. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Into the Fire")
Jordan Dennis became a reporter for the FNS at some point after 2374 (at least in the Pendragon timeline). He eventually hosted his own subspace broadcast, The Dennis Report. (Star Trek: Pendragon: "Wounded Soldiers", "Lighthouse In a Sea of Stars")
