The European Union was a Terran multi-national political entity founded in the last decade of the 20th century, built upon a precursory loose affiliatory body known as the European Economic Community, and it encompassed many nations in Europe. It may have been a precursor to the European Hegemony.
- At least in Star Trek: Lexington (United Trek) continuity, the Hegemony may have co-existed, at least in the early 23rd century, with another alliance of nation-states called the Second European Union that included England, as Lexington navigator Terrence Lawford was born in that Union.
Each country of the European Union as it existed in 1986 supplied one pledge to the 0L Pledge for European Law School Transparency. (Star Trek: False Vacuum: "Pledge of the Protester")
