Elizabeth Grant was the Starfleet officer who served as first officer aboard the USS Repulse when the ship was launched in 2370. Although she is ambitious and driven, her experience is confined solely to administration. Prior to her assignment to the Repulse, she had served for years as an aide to AdmiralChekote. As a favor to her, Chekote assigned her to the Repulse as first officer. (Star Trek: The Nomad Frontier)
From the time she graduated until her assignment to the Repulse, Grant served exclusively in the administrative side of Starfleet. Her most important duty to date was as an aide to AdmiralChekote.
Grant is an extremely ambitious officer, and she sees her tour about the Repulse as little more than a stepping stone towards a command of her own, and one day, a place in the admiralty. This has led to numerous conflicts with Captain Farrell, who fears that she may put her career over the well being of her crew. Grant resents this, believing that while her career is important to her, she is unwilling to literally step over the dead to get a promotion.
In 2372, she was promoted to Commander. (ST: TNF "Death Before Dishonor")
Grant prefers the textbook approach to Starfleet life. As a result, she keeps herself isolated from the rest of the crew as much as possible. When she is left in command of the bridge, she insists that it be run in a professional manner, with no extraneous conversation or banter. This makes her unpopular with the crew, but she sees that as a small price to pay.
