Earth Outpost 8 was one of several United Earth, then United Federation of Planets (after 2161), facilities monitoring the Romulan Neutral Zone. (TOS: "Balance of Terror") The outpost was located in the Beta Quadrant. (Star Trek: Star Charts, Stellar Cartography)
Four facilities -- Earth Outposts 2, 3, 4 and 8 -- were destroyed on stardate 1709.2 by a single Romulan Bird-of-Prey testing the Federation's military strength with a plasma weapon. ("Balance of Terror")
- In the continuity of Star Trek: The Intrepid Adventures, this facility was quickly rebuilt or replaced by late 2266, since many personnel began their service aboard it that year.
