Earth-Kzin Wars

The Earth-Romulan War was a major interstellar conflict fought during the mid-22nd century between the forces of United Earth and those of the Romulan Star Empire, and their respective allies.

History[]

The various fan continuities have different -- and often conflicting -- accounts of how the war started, what battles took place, what ships took part, and when events occurred.
Tarra nova

Terra Nova, the sight of the first battle of the Earth-Romulan War.

The war began in 2156 with the attack on Terra Nova, one of Earth's settlements. Station Salem-One's construction, in orbit of Berengaria VII, was ordered by Starfleet Command even though they knew the area of space had been claimed by the Romulans.

One starship that took part in the war was the USS Yorktown (NCC-208) under Bill Stiles. After the attack on Terra Nova she was one of the ships that laid pursuit of the Romulan fleet responsible for the attack. The Yorktown was ambushed and Stiles was put on trial for his recklessness during the incident but was not found guilty of the charges. (Star Trek: The Romulan Wars)

A important battle during the war was the Battle of Gamma Hydra, where the actions of Admiral William Larson proved crucial. The Larson-class destroyers of the 23rd century, and its lead vessel, were named after him. (FASA RPG: Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

Romulus riots

Riots on Romulus

On Romulus, there were several large protests over the war in the larger cities. Many civilians were killed during these riots including the sister of a Commander Senak. (Star Trek: The Romulan Wars)

The Earth ship Arcturus distinguished itself at the Battles of Alpha Trianguli and Nu Chalcedonis in 2159. ("The USS Arcturus in History")

The war ended with the Battle of Cheron. A stunning victory for Earth, it ended the Romulan threat to the planet and the Romulans negotiated a treaty that created a neutral zone to act as a buffer between the Romulan Star Empire and Earth territory. (TOS: "Balance of Terror"; TNG: "The Defector"; ENT novel: The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm)

Nearly 40 years later, a talk-show host, Zach Jasper, would assert to Commander Alisa Vandre that the 12 million people who had died during this conflict weren't worth any alleged benefits from space exploration. (Down to Earth with Zach Jasper)

It is presumed that the 12 million cited by Jasper had been Earth civilians, as well as Earth Starfleet and UESPA personnel.

Captain William T. Riker, in a conversation with a Romulan commander, referred to an ancestor who had served aboard the Patton during this conflict. The commander also discussed ancestors who had been in the war. (PIC novel: The Dark Veil)

Alternate continuities[]

Beneath the Raptor's Wing[]

United Earth's Starbase 1 was still under construction, and a Vulcan science outpost was on Berengaria VII, when the Romulans attacked on November 8, 2155. This was known as the First Battle of Berengaria.

Fan continuities[]

Star Trek: Poseidon - The Birth of the Coalition[]

In 2159, the Battle of Sector 2148 was a decisive strike by United Earth and MACO forces which stopped the Romulans from staging an invasion of Earth.

Star Trek: Remington[]

Captain William McCarthy, an ancestor of Richard Boswell, served as commanding officer of the Endeavour (NX-06) during the war.

Dispatches from the Romulan War[]

Soldiers married their sweethearts in a large pre-strike ceremony organized by gossip columnist Rona Moran. (Soldiers' Marriage Project)

Prisoners of war escaped after being held by, apparently, the Remans. (Prison Break)

The Romulan War[]

In the continuity of this series, the attack on Station Salem-One was in September 2155 ("The Romulan War (Part 1)") and the attack on Terra Nova in October 2157. ("Ships of the Line," "Hunting Grounds")
