The Department of Temporal Investigations (often abbreviated to DTI) was a Federation agency charged with protecting the timeline from improper use of time travel to alter the past, as well as enforcing the Federation regulations related to time travel. (DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations")
A Federation DTI/Starfleet team goes back in time to 1825 and observes warring factions in Java. ("Ancient of Days")
In 2298, the Federation Science Council merges its Chronal Assessment Committee and Anomalous Physics Group to form the Department of Temporal Investigations. (Last Unicorn Games RPG: All Our Yesterdays: The Time Travel Sourcebook)
Later that year, one of many offices of the DTI is established on Shadowstar Station. (Star Trek: Shadowstar Station timeline)
April 2301: Andreas Kitabatu al-'Qalb is recruited by a DTI cell from 2371 to help interdict a nova weapon planted in the heart of Cardassia’s sun. After the mission is over, Andreas is made to forget certain facts, such as the location of Cardassia, the annexation (in 2328) of Bajor by the Cardassians as well as his discovery of other missions undertaken by the DTI. (“Ancient of Days”)
Janielle Potvin was a DTI agent planted in False Vacuum Squadron as a fighter pilot. She seized the Teenage Device from Rakata, which created vortices through which their targets could travel back to the time one of them was a sixteen-year-old, due to its potential danger. (Star Trek: False Vacuum: "Dear Sixteen-Year-Old Me")
Per Federation regulations, DTI agents were to inspect any device suspected of being used for time travel before they could be approved, like the Temporal Slot Machine. (Star Trek: False Vacuum: "Scrap Yard Vegas")
