A convoy is a group of vehicles travelling together for mutual support and often with armed escorts for protection.
Following the First Battle of Deep Space 9 the Federation Council agreed to supply aid to the Cardassian Union, though the Cardassians had to supply the transports. Starfleet provided an escort, the USS Delaware, USS Swiftfire, USS Swiftsure, USS Venture and six other starships for the convoy up to the Cardassian border. The convoy was attacked by Klingon forces while it waited at the border for the Cardassian replacement escorts. The convoy lost at least one ship, the Comet Chaser. In early 2374, the USS Enterprise-E led a task force from the Fifth Fleet and Klingon Third Battlegroup to destroy a Cardassian convoy that Starfleet suspected was transporting biogenic and metagenic weapons to use against Federation colonies and outposts. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "Moral Actions")
The pirate group, Rough Necks raided a Federation convoy bound for Outpost Clarity in mid-2374 destroying two escorts and crippling a third. (Star Trek: Swiftfire: "A Rough Time")
