Cheating is an act of lying, deception, fraud, trickery, imposture, or imposition. Cheating characteristically is employed to create an unfair advantage, usually in one's own interest, and often at the expense of others. People guilty of cheating are known as cheaters. Cheating is most notable in the educational and gambling circuits.
This is a list of varying customs pertaining to cheating by species.
The Malachorians considered cheating an advanced science and Malachorian society is divided between cheating charter holders and those who do not hold such papers. As such, Malachorians were encouraged to learn academic cheating at an early age. People who did not know how to cheat by the time they would attend university would sometimes take cheating courses, with their own protocols. Cheating was so widespread on Malachor V that it became nicknamed the Planet of the Cheaters. (RIS Bouteina: "No Child Left Untested", "Planet of the Cheaters", "How the Charter Was Won")
Also, the ones who could obtain cheating charters early in their childhood usually attained fame in cheating and usually go on to either brilliant academic or gambling careers. These prodigious cheaters were usually members of the U-9 Cheater Confederation. (RIS Bouteina: "Party School")
Cheating was literally glorified: several prizes were awarded to outstanding cheaters for a variety of cheating-related achievements, the most prestigious of which being the Fulmina Prize. Also, cheating contests were held and their winners could become quite famous as well. (RIS Bouteina: "Homeward")
