Charles Wiremu Gray was a Starfleet scientist, of Maori descent, on active duty in the 23rd century.

He was born in Kirikiriroa, Waikato Region, New Zealand, to Aperahama Gray, a professor at the University of Waikato, and Houhia Gray, a professor at Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec). His twin brother, Thomas Ihu Gray, and younger sister, Leslie Kahukura Gray, followed in their parents' footsteps and became professors.

Gray was of the same Starfleet Academy class (2241) as Christopher Pike, though they didn't know each other well. Ca. 2249, Charles was the best man at his brother's wedding to David Adamley. While Thomas and David didn't have any children of their own, Charles became friends with his brother-in-law's niece, Rebecca Gallaudet. He would later be one of her sponsors to the Academy.

For some years in the 2250s, Gray was an instructor in astrophysics at the Academy. Among his students, at different times, were Spock, Thelin and Robert Tacket.

Gray succeeded Sangeet Ramjattansingh as the USS Accord's chief science officer when Ramjattansingh became executive officer in 2261.

Gray was promoted to lieutenant commander at the beginning of 2262.

Along with the rest of Accord's officers and crew, he disappeared in 2263. (Star Trek: Accord: "Year One"; Star Trek: Shadowstar Station: Operation Blackjack)
