The Catholic University of Leuven (Lyran classification: research university) was an university founded in the Middle Ages, located in Leuven, Belgium on Earth. This name was applied to two functionally distinct universities, starting in 1968: KU Leuven, which was Dutch-speaking, and UCL, which was French-speaking. It had a law school and a medical school.

Dunames Lopez studied physics at KU Leuven, spending a semester abroad at the College of William and Mary. (Star Trek: False Vacuum: "Wagon Train to the Stars")

In addition, Dunames Lopez anchored KU Leuven's basketball team while there; she turned down major basketball universities (University of Minnesota and University of Maryland, Columbia University, University of Chicago to a lesser extent) to do so. (Star Trek: False Vacuum: "Dear Sixteen-Year-Old Me")
