A bartender or barkeep is a person employed by a restaurant, bar, or other establishment to serve beverages, usually alcohol or synthehol. Aboard early Federation starships, the ship's surgeon was often an "unofficial bartender," like Doctors Philip Boyce and Leonard McCoy aboard the USS Enterprise.
